The ACLS Course is designed to give the Healthcare the basic knowledge to care for the patient in cardiac arrest and to manage acute coronary syndromes and stroke. During this course you will learn by observing, discussing, and doing. ACLS instructors will help you achieve success in completing the following objectives.

Validation:

Participants who complete the class will receive an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support provider card.  The card is valid for a two-year period.  Participants will also receive documentation of appropriate continuing medical education credit.  This course is approved for Nursing, Physician, Pharmacy, AANA and EMS credit.

Course Length:

Provider course- Two days (12 to 16 hours)

Renewal course - One day (4 to 7 hours)

Course objectives:

I. Manage the first 10 minutes of a cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation.

· Provide BLS Care, including proper operation of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

·         Provide proper operation of a conventional defibrillator.

· Provide an advanced airway and recognize achievement versus nonachievement of an airway.

· Obtain vascular access.

II. Apply the 4 arrest algorithms.

· VF/Pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT).

· Pulseless electrical activity (PEA).

· Asystole

· Respiratory arrest

III. Recognize and manage prearrest conditions that may lead to cardiac arrest such as:

· Acute coronary syndromes

· Symptomatic arrhythmias

· Respiratory failure

· Acute stroke
