Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course

The ENPC Course is designed to improve the overall care of the pediatric patient in the emergency care setting and to increase the skill and confidence of emergency nurses who care for children.        

Validation:
 
Nurses who complete the class will receive the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Card good for four years and 18.6 hours of nursing credit through the ENA.  Paramedics may audit this course without receiving a card for 12 hours credit through the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Course Length:

Provider course- Two days (12 to 16 hours)

 

 

Course objectives:

q       To describe the characteristics of life-threatening illness and injury in children.

q       To identify the anatomic and physiologic characteristics of children as a basis for sings and symptoms.

q       To identify the most frequent causes of illness or injury in children.

q       To describe the assessment of children with illness or injury.

q       To identify the appropriate nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes based on the assessment findings.

q       To plan the specific interventions needed to manage the child with illness or injury.

q       To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions related to patient outcomes.

q       To identify health promotion strategies related to the pediatric population.
